Jaia Rai

Jaia is a litigator who returned to private practice in June 2017 after 11 years with the Law Society of British Columbia. She joined the Law Society in 2006 as discipline counsel, and assumed the management of the Discipline group in 2013. Her role was expanded in 2015 to include the Unauthorized Practice group. While at the Law Society, Jaia practiced predominantly in the area of administrative law with a focus on professional regulation.

Prior to joining the Law Society, she had articled to Ian Donaldson QC with the firm, Oliver & Company, working in the areas of criminal defence and the defence of notaries in professional negligence claims. She was in private practice for 8 years thereafter as an associate with the firm Crossin Coristine (later Crossin Coristine Woodall) where she practiced criminal, civil and administrative law in close alliance with David Crossin QC. Her practice included the defence of individuals in complex and high profile criminal and regulatory cases, including the Air India trial.

Since returning to private practice, Jaia has focused upon work for regulatory bodies, including the Law Society, while also representing professionals who are facing investigations or hearings.
